Litigation & Dispute Resolution

Helping individuals resolve civil disputes.
Civil disputes are a fact of life. Prolonged and expensive legal battles do not have to be.

The McVeagh Fleming team is experienced, pragmatic, and focused on achieving timely and cost-effective resolutions to civil disputes. We work closely with clients to understand their objectives and tailor a strategy that is proportionate, practical, and aligned with their desired outcome.

Civil disputes
Civil disputes often require specialist legal advice and a sound understanding of court processes. McVeagh Fleming’s litigation team has strong procedural knowledge and uses the legal system strategically to pursue the best available outcome for our clients as efficiently as possible.

Mediation and arbitration
We recognise that litigation can be costly, time-consuming, and stressful. Where appropriate, we actively pursue resolution through mediation or arbitration and encourage constructive engagement between parties to reach an early and commercially sensible settlement. If a negotiated outcome is not possible, we are well equipped to represent clients through formal court proceedings.

Why having an up-to-date will is essential

Most of us recognise the importance of certain life admin tasks: you need a valid passport to travel, house insurance for your mortgage, and a driver’s licence to get behind the wheel. In the same way, having a Will isn’t optional; it’s essential. Yet many people still put it off, thinking they’re too young, too busy, or that everything will “automatically” go to their loved ones anyway. Unfortunately, that isn’t always how things work.

Understanding section 72 notices on your property title

When reviewing a property title, you may notice a reference to Section 72 of the Building Act 2004, or in some cases, its predecessor under the Building Act 1991. While it can look like a routine technical notation, a Section 72 notice is anything but minor. It signals that the land is affected by a known natural hazard and can have far-reaching consequences for property owners, buyers, developers, lenders, and insurers alike.
