Why we need your information

The New Zealand Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Act 2009 is part of a global initiative to reduce the impact of criminal activity on individuals and economies around the world.

Under this law, we are required to verify the identity of most of our clients before we can begin or continue working with them. This is called client due diligence (CDD). Even if you’ve been a valued client for many years, we may still need to request updated information from you.

This process ensures we comply with legal requirements and can continue providing you with our services. If we’re unable to collect the necessary information, we may not be able to proceed. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. For more details about the AML/CFT Act, visit this website.

Verify your identity and address

We are required to verify the identity and address of any individual who is a client, a beneficial owner, or someone with effective control over a client. To meet these requirements under the AML/CFT Act, we use APLYid software for biometric checks, PEP/Sanction checks, and identity and address verification.

Please note, APLYid does not retain any of your information. Once the verification process is complete, all data is removed from their system. Your information is securely stored in your client file with McVeagh Fleming, as required by the AML/CFT Act.

The process

If we do not have a current photo ID for you or if we have not met you in person, you will receive a text from APLYid to complete the biometric check. The text will come from the number 8232 and include the following message:
You will then click on the link in the text which will take you to an app which is user friendly, safe, and reasonably quick!  If you do have any issues/questions you can call APLYid on 0800 969 300 and they will assist you.

You will need to have on hand a copy of your current NZ driver license or passport.  If you have a foreign ID you can still complete the verification  - when prompted select ‘NZ Passport’.
