Rachel Xie

Rachel grew up in mainland China and practised law there at one of the top law firms in Guang Dong Province before she moved to New Zealand in 2012. Rachel joined McVeagh Fleming in 2022 after previously worked at a large national law firm in the city.  She works directly with the partners, James Varney and Steve Graham in our commercial and property team. Her multi-cultural background and bilingualism enables her to understand and work with people from different cultures and backgrounds. She speaks fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

 *   Advising a Chinese investor on a financial investment project under the New Zealand Investor 1 (Investor Plus) Category, with a total investment value of NZD $50 million.

 *   Advising on the sale of a New Zealand construction sector business to a NZX listed New Zealand company and related restructuring, with a combined transaction value of NZD $88 million.

 *   Advising on the sale of a New Zealand family business to an Australian multi-national company with a consideration of NZD $30 million.

 *   Assisting a New Zealand Chinese developer in obtaining an OIO exemption for an apartment investment project.

 *   Acting for a developer in a large-scale residential subdivision involving 110 lots.

 *   Advising on land development and construction financing for a developer, including associated bank guarantees and securities, with a total facility value of NZD $20 million.

 *   Advising a high net worth individual on their asset and investment planning in New Zealand with a total asset value of NZD $55 million.

 *   Acting for a family-owned petrol station business on its NZD $18 million refinancing, including advising on corporate restructuring, providing security over commercial property, and issuing legal opinions for the business trust.
