Deborah studied Legal Studies at school on the North Shore which set her up with an interest in the law which led her to join a mid-size Takapuna law firm in the late 80's where she started work as a residential and commercial property trainee Legal Executive assisting a young female partner. During this time she also took on studying part-time to obtain the Legal Executive Certificate qualification, going on to receive the top graduate award for New Zealand in 1990.
After nearly nine years with the same law firm in Takapuna, Deborah ventured from New Zealand to travel, living first in the USA and then moving on to Europe. London, Paris and Bavaria, Germany were home bases for a decade, working in legal firms and then motorsport before Deborah returned to New Zealand in 2004 to enable her eldest daughter to start school in Albany and allowing her family to grow up and enjoy the North Shore beaches and the relaxed kiwi lifestyle. While in London Deborah enjoyed working for a large world-wide law firm, with a vista of St Paul’s Cathedral and was one of around 1200 employees who were able to appreciate the benefit of the firms in-house restaurant, gym, doctor and bar, among other perks.
Deborah re-entered the legal world in New Zealand in 2005, returning to the same firm she had started with 17 years earlier and again in conveyancing, then made the move to join the McVeagh Fleming Commercial Property Team in the Albany Office in 2007, taking on a new area specialising in Electricity and Gas Easements for a major corporate client. Deborah moved to the Property Team in 2011 assisting Tony Coupe with private clients and working mainly in the residential conveyancing area and administering Estates and still enjoys this work along with completing some subdivisions and commercial work.
Outside of work, Deborah enjoys spending time with her two daughters, keeping fit, tennis, music, coffee, reading, the beach, modern European and 40's-70's American cars, motorsport and travelling. She loves European food, wine and languages and enjoys speaking basic French.
